Her training and experience as a UNC Emergency Medicine physician equipped her to assist multiple families during long and difficult days in storm-ravaged western N.C.

The $300K, 2-year research project is being funding by a "Grants for Early Medical/Surgical Specialists’ Transition to Aging Research" (GEMSSTAR) career development award.

The research shows firearm injuries in N.C. are pervasive and increasing, but preventable.

The study, published in the N.C. Medical Journal, included several current and former UNC faculty members and students.

In this role, he will be responsible for review & maintenance, and author recruitment for the bi-monthly publication.

Numerous awards were presented to residents and faculty by their peers during the event.

Participants came from 16 counties throughout N.C. to attend the week-long residential program held on the UNC campus.

Dr. Gitau presented the data at the annual Society of Academic Emergency Medicine (SAEM) conference during a visit to the U.S.

UNC Medical Center SANE team members are now seeing patients at UNC Hillsborough so patients don’t have to be transferred to Chapel Hill for care.

The research findings were published in PLOS ONE.
