Complete Graduate School application for domestic students or Graduate School application for international students.

Note: The online application will be available in late August. Application for admission in the Fall Semester must be completed by the second Tuesday in June. Under exceptional situations, we may consider applications for the Spring Semester. Fall admission is required if the applicant wants to be considered for an assistantship.

Admission to the doctoral program in occupational science is open to individuals who have a master’s degree in a social science field or in occupational therapy. Applicants should have strong academic backgrounds, an understanding of the discipline of occupational science, a desire to contribute to the knowledge and research regarding human occupation, and the goal of an academic or applied research career.

Before writing your personal statement about why you want to study at UNC-CH, prospective applicants will benefit from reading the publications of the faculty referenced on the faculty biography pages, as well as literature from prominent journals within occupational science. Doctoral students in occupational science are admitted to the Graduate School, not the UNC School of Medicine.

Provide the following in your application:

  • TOEFL scores (if the applicant’s first language is not English)
  • Unofficial transcripts from all post-secondary educational institutions
  • Personal statement
  • Academic statement
  • Sample of academic/scholarly work (optional)
  • Three letters of recommendation (when feasible the letter should address the applicant’s potential for success in a doctoral program)
  • Current resume or Curriculum Vitae
  • Unofficial transcripts, CV/Resume and your Personal Statement are uploaded to the online application to the Graduate School.
