Barrett Distinguished Professor of Ophthalmology at UNC Kittner Eye Center, and colleague Sarah Armstrong, Director of Imaging, lectured on Testing for Premium Intraocular Lenses.

Dr. Don Budenz, Chair of UNC Ophthalmology, recently completed a mission trip to Ghana, West Africa, to examine patients and perform glaucoma surgery. Glaucoma is the leading cause of irreversible blindness worldwide. The highest incidence of glaucoma in the world is in West Africa.

Dr. Scott Lawrence, adjunct faculty at UNC Ophthalmology, visited with UNC Eye Residents and Faculty in July and gave an update on his clinic and practice in Ethiopia. Dr. Lawrence is pictured with UNC Ophthalmology Chair, Dr. Donald Budenz.

Dr. Kathy Whitfield, Assistant Professor of Pediatric Ophthalmology, recently served as a visiting professor at the Tianjin Eye Hospital in Tianjin, China. Dr. Whitfield was also a speaker at the 2019 Tianjin International Ophthalmology Forum. Dr. Whitfield is pictured with colleague Grace Prakalapakorn, M.D., from Duke, and local ophthalmology students.

UNC Ophthalmology and the Kittner Eye Center have again been named Best of Chapel Hill in an annual readers’ survey.

Dr. Julie Skaggs of UNC Ophthalmology was welcomed by the Senior Striders of Chapel Hill to talk about preserving vision for a lifetime. Senior Striders is organized through the Orange County Department on Aging.

UNC Residents Lee Moore, Ryan O’Meilia, Chris Hwang and John Deans welcome Dr. Tom Oetting, Residency Director at the University of Iowa Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences, to 2019 Residents’ Day.

Dr. Zongchao Han, Associate Professor at UNC Ophthalmology, recently received funding from two prestigious organizations: the Edward N. & Della L. Thome Memorial Foundation for Macular Degeneration Research and the BrightFocus Foundation.
