    Hickman and Raffa Named 2026 TraCS K12 Scholars

    Elise Hickman, PhD, in the Curriculum in Toxicology & Environmental Medicine working with Dr. Megan Rebuli in Pediatric Allergy/Immunology, and Brittany Raffa, MD, Assistant Professor in General Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine, have been named 2026 CTSA K12 Scholars as part of the Gene Orringer Junior Faculty Career Development Program (TraCS K12).   • UNC BRAINY-T1D Team

    BRAINY‑T1D: Advancing Our Understanding of How Early Type 1 Diabetes Shapes the Developing Brain

    BRAINY-T1D is a nationwide effort aimed at understanding the earliest effects of Type 1 Diabetes in young children. UNC is one of eleven campuses participating in this NIH project. At UNC, the study is led by an interdisciplinary group of investigators whose expertise spans neuroimaging, endocrinology, pediatrics, occupational therapy and pediatric neuropsychology.

The society recognizes distinguished academic leaders, educators, and researchers whose contributions have earned national and international acclaim.
