In addition to providing exceptional surgical care for common gastrointestinal diseases, the Division of GI Surgery participates in a variety of programs that focus on giving patients the benefits of Multidisciplinary care through strong collaboration between leading experts in various specialties.

UNC Multidisciplinary Center for Inflammatory Bowel Diseases (IBD) is a collaborative effort involving renowned scientists, and clinical experts in gastroenterology, radiology, pathology, nutrition, entrostomal therapy nursing, and colo rectal surgery who specialize in the care of patients with IBD (including Crohn’s, ulcerative colitis and indeterminate colitis)

The UNC Bariatric Surgery Program is designed for patients interested in undergoing weight loss surgery. It is an accredited American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS) Center of Excellence and a Blue Cross and Blue Shield, Blue Distinction Center. The multidisciplinary team works closely with other UNC Weight Management Programs to help patients during their weight loss journey.

UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center – Established in 1979 is one of the oldest and largest referral centers in the state, combining the expertise of physicians from medical oncology, radiation oncology, diagnostic radiology, surgical oncology, reconstructive surgery, and oncology nursing. The Division of Gastrointestinal Surgery working closely with the UNC Lineberger’s Gastrointestinal Oncology Program ensures that patients afflicted with cancers of the colon, rectum and anus receive the most advanced specialty care.
