Project II Leader
Mehmet Kesimer, Ph.D., is an Associate Professor of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, and an investigator of the Cystic Fibrosis and Pulmonary Research Center. He leads Project II for the UNC Center for Tobacco Regulatory Science and Lung Health. One of Dr. Kesimer’s main interests is to understand how the mucosal barrier and its macromolecules function in airway defense in normal lungs, and how they compromise and contribute to the pathogenesis of chronic hypersecretory lung diseases such as cystic fibrosis, COPD and asthma.
