World Class Care with a Hometown Touch
Our Mission our Values
Our goal at UNC Eye is to improve the health of North Carolinians and others whom we serve in an environment of service excellence. We will accomplish this by providing leadership in the interrelated areas of patient care, education and research.
Core Values
Patient Care
As the Department of Ophthalmology at UNC, we will provide premier eye care to North Carolinians and others whom we serve. We will maintain our strong tradition of reaching underserved populations. Excellence in education and research will enhance our delivery of the highest quality eye care which will be delivered in an environment that is exceptionally welcoming, collegial and supportive both for those receiving and those providing the care.
Education
The UNC Department of Ophthalmology is dedicated to providing a current and comprehensive educational program to its resident physicians, fellows, and medical students. Our goal is to produce leaders in the field of ophthalmology who are medically, surgically, and culturally competent. The department will work to create an environment that fosters innovation and progress within the program through open lines of communication. We will continually strive to offer and incorporate the most innovative and medically relevant learning resources available, both within and beyond UNC borders. We will endeavor to educate our colleagues in ophthalmology and other medical fields on how to provide better eye care to our patients.
Research
We committed to the support of excellence in clinical, basic and translational eye research. It will support the development of state of the art research laboratories with national and international recognition. UNC Eye also is committed to the study of new treatments in human disease through participation in large scale multicenter, federally or privately sponsored trials and to the understanding of eye diseases through the close collaboration between its clinicians and basic research scientists. The research mission of UNC Eye is to pioneer new ideas and technologies which will set up the stage for better and alternative treatments of eye diseases in the near future.
Faculty and Staff
Here at UNC Eye will strive to recruit and retain the highest quality faculty, staff, residents and fellows while supporting the professional development and continuing education of all employees.
