The UNC Department of Emergency Medicine has a long tradition of actively partnering with colleagues in other countries.
During their visit, the two physicians were delighted to meet with Dr. Judith Tintinalli, Professor & Founding Chair (Emeritus) of the UNC Department of Emergency Medicine from 1991 to 2007, and an internationally renowned thought leader in the field.
Doctor Somani is a 3rd year Emergency Medicine resident at Muhimbili University in Muhimbili, Tanzania.
For the past six years, Dr. Sugut — also a 3rd year resident — has been an active collaborator with the UNC Emergency Department in the areas of research, medical student education and emergency medicine development at the Kenyatta National Hospital in Nairobi, Kenya.
UNC’s Division of Health Equity and Global Emergency Medicine looks forward to continued partnership with Dr. Sugut in Nairobi as she transitions to a leadership role in their Department of Accident and Emergency Medicine, in December, 2024.
