Habib Khoury, MD, Receives Robert C. Cefalo House Officer Award

Habib Khoury, MD, Chief Resident in the Department of Otolaryngology/Head and Neck Surgery at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, has been selected as one of five annual recipients of the Robert C. Cefalo House Officer Award, presented by UNC Hospitals to recognize outstanding members of the house staff for exemplary service, professional performance, and compassionate patient care. Recipients are selected by a committee of physicians, nurses, and clinical and administrative staff, who evaluate nominations submitted by any member of the healthcare team. Honorees are chosen for embodying the role model physician, demonstrating exemplary clinical care, outstanding professionalism, leadership, and empathetic care for patients, families, and the broader healthcare team.

The Cefalo Award reflects how a physician treats the people around them every single day. Khoury receives a $1,000 professional development stipend, which may be used during his remaining training or up to three years following completion to support conference attendance, scientific meetings, or educational materials.

The Department of Otolaryngology/Head and Neck Surgery congratulates Khoury on this well-deserved honor and thanks him for embodying the values Dr. Cefalo spent a career modeling at UNC.

“Dr. Khoury is an exceptional resident in the Department of Otolaryngology/Head and Neck Surgery, who consistently demonstrates excellence in both the surgical and medical management of complex ENT patients. His unwavering commitment to patient centered care is evident through his compassion, professionalism, and dedication. I have had the privilege of working with Dr. Khoury since his arrival at UNC five years ago, and he is uniquely deserving of this honor.”
