Kelly Brown, MBA, has been named Interim Associate Dean and Chief Information Officer for the UNC School of Medicine. Kelly began in her new position on September 1.

The University’s phone service will be moving from Verizon to AT&T over the next 36 months. The University is developing a migration schedule that will transition phone numbers on a building-by-building basis. On Friday, August 27th the University will be migrating all phone lines, including main lines, fax lines, and conference room lines in the following buildings.

School of Medicine IT will be performing maintenance to SOM file services on Saturday, July 24 starting at 10 a.m. and finishing up around 5 p.m. The School of Medicine IT SOM file services are usually accessed as the “H:”, “G:”, and “J:” drives. This work is non-disruptive and should cause no downtime.

UNC School of Medicine is moving from its on-premise Panopto system to UNC’s new Panopto cloud lecture capture system at the end of the spring semester.

Near the end of 2020, School of Medicine IT took steps to block the macOS 11 (Big Sur) upgrade on SOM IT-managed macOS devices upon learning of issues with the upgrade that could result in upgraded School of Medicine machines being left inoperable. Those issues have now been resolved.

Apple recently released a new operating system, macOS 11 (known as Big Sur), and the School of Medicine IT team has seen several issues occurring on devices that have been upgraded to this new version.
