Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology (EP) Fellowship
The Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology (EP) Program at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill is a 24-month training program (12 months ACGME accredited). Funding is available at the PGY-7 level or greater.
The EP Fellowship Program at UNC provides a comprehensive training program in all aspects of electrophysiology. Training is structured around the ACGME core competencies and the HRS Clinical Competency Statement for fellowship training.
As a Fellow in our hands-on training program, the Fellows will be supervised in performing a large number of approaches in the treatment of cardiac rhythm disorders. The state-of-the-art facilities at UNC provide the Fellows access to advanced technologies, and as one of the primary referral centers for the southeastern region of the United States, Fellows will experience working in an environment with a high volume of complex procedures.
EP Fellows will also have the opportunity to participate in research through at least one mentored research project, which should lead to a manuscript or research presentation by the end of their training.
Since the 1970’s, clinical cardiac electrophysiology has been an important and distinct program within the division of Cardiology at the University of North Carolina. With their pioneering work in catheter electrode techniques for intracardiac recording, implantable cardioverter defibrillators, and ablative therapy for all types of arrhythmia, the UNC electrophysiologists have created a world-class clinical arrhythmia and device implantation service.
Since 2007, when Dr. Paul Mounsey was named as Director of Electrophysiology, the volume and complexity of services offered have grown dramatically. Fellows within the EP Fellowship program are afforded a unique opportunity to hone their procedural and clinical skills as an electrophysiologist while treating patients from a wide geographic area that suffer from complex arrhythmias.
