Heart disease is the leading cause of death for women, yet women remain under treated and under studied. As a leader in North Carolina for women’s cardiovascular health, UNC has committed to training the next generation of cardiologists who are uniquely positioned to prevent, diagnose and treat women across their lifespans. To meet this exceptional need, the UNC Division of Cardiology has established the Paula Miller Women’s Heart Fellowship.

UNC offers a one-year non-ACGME-accredited advanced fellowship training. The program will provide focused and comprehensive training in areas that are not heavily taught in traditional cardiovascular curriculum. The fellow will receive training across various sub-specialties including adult congenital heart disease, pulmonary hypertension, vascular disease, cardio-oncology and cardiovascular prevention. The fellow will also rotate outside of cardiology in specialties that affect women including obstetrics and gynecology and rheumatology. The goal is to provide the trainee with the knowledge and skills to expertly and comfortably care for women from young adulthood, through pregnancy and post-menopause.
