Registered users who have been trained on a microscope can reserve that microscope:

  1. Sign in to MSL’s iLab website (“Sign in” button, top right corner) using UNC (internal users) or iLab credentials (external users).
  2. Select the Schedule Equipment tab and click on the View Schedule button next to any system you have been trained on. You should be able to see the calendar for any system on which you have received training.

If you need training on another microscope:

  1. Sign in to MSL’s iLab website (“Sign in” button, top right corner) using UNC (internal users) or iLab credentials (external users).
  2. Select the Request Services tab and click on the Request Service button next to the service of interest (light microscopy training, electron microscopy training, workstation analysis training).
  3. Fill out and submit the necessary form. We will be in touch ASAP.

After-hours access

We are open Mondays 11a-5p and Tuesdays through Friday 8am-5pm, except for University holidays. Any time outside of that is considered after-hours, and limited to qualified UNC personnel only. Please if you are an experienced user and would like to discuss using a microscope after-hours. Note that after-hours access is a privilege granted when a user demonstrates sufficient expertise and experience that MSL staff (and they) feel comfortable operating the microscope without staff assistance. It can be requested through our iLab site, in the request services section.

Assisted sessions

If you know you will need assistance during an upcoming session, please email us in advance and we will be happy to help you. Do not rely on the iLab staff assisted feature as we do not receive automatic notifications of staff assistance requests.
