On January 17th, Sarah Jo Sleiman (Diering Lab) successfully defended and passed her oral qualifying exam! The title of her research proposal is, “Elucidation and treatment of hyperarousal in a mouse model of AD”. Congratulations SJl!!

On November 6th, Keeley Spiess successfully defended her PhD Thesis: “Apoptosis in Neurons is Transient and Reversible”. Mentor: Dr. Mohanish Deshmukh.  Congratulations Dr. Spiess!!

On December 19th, Rubal Singla (Stein Lab) successfully defended and passed her oral qualifying exam! The title of her research proposal is, “Modeling cortical surface area hyperexpansion in autism using induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC) derived organoids”. Congratulations Rubal!!

On December 13th, Hannah Bazick successfully defended her PhD Thesis: “Towards an effective gene therapy for Angelman syndrome: Targeting Ube3a-ATS with CRISPR/Cas9 and zinc finger nucleases”. Mentor: Dr. Mark Zylka.  Congratulations Dr. Bazick!!

On November 4th, Samantha Chéry successfully defended her PhD Thesis: “Characterization of neuroimmune actions of [3α,5α]3-hydroxypregnan-20-one (allopregnanolone,(3α,5α)-THP) in alcohol-preferring (P) rat brain”. Mentor: Dr. Leslie Morrow.  Congratulations Dr. Chéry!!

On October 30th, Morrent Thang successfully defended his PhD Thesis: “Neural Stem Cells as Therapeutic Carriers for Protein-and Nanoparticle-Based Therapies in Glioblastoma”. Mentor: Dr. Shawn Hingtgen.  Congratulations Dr. Thang!

On August 1st, Joe Krzeski (PhD student in Philpot Lab) was awarded an NRSA F31 predoctoral fellowship from the Extramural Research Programs in the Neurosciences and Neurological Disorders entitled “The Role of UBE3A Isoforms in AS-associated Seizure Susceptibility”. Congratulations, Joe!
