    Brenner Receives K23 Award to Advance Pain Management Research in Crohn’s Disease

    The UNC Department of Pediatrics is pleased to announce that Erica Brenner, MD, MSCR, Assistant Professor of Pediatrics in the Division of Gastroenterology, has received a Mentored Patient-Oriented Research Career Development Award (K23) for Advancing Evidence-Based Pain Management in IBD.

    Elise Hickman, PhD, in the Curriculum in Toxicology & Environmental Medicine working with Dr. Megan Rebuli in Pediatric Allergy/Immunology, and Brittany Raffa, MD, Assistant Professor in General Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine, have been named 2026 CTSA K12 Scholars as part of the Gene Orringer Junior Faculty Career Development Program (TraCS K12).   • UNC BRAINY-T1D Team

    BRAINY‑T1D: Advancing Our Understanding of How Early Type 1 Diabetes Shapes the Developing Brain

    BRAINY-T1D is a nationwide effort aimed at understanding the earliest effects of Type 1 Diabetes in young children. UNC is one of eleven campuses participating in this NIH project. At UNC, the study is led by an interdisciplinary group of investigators whose expertise spans neuroimaging, endocrinology, pediatrics, occupational therapy and pediatric neuropsychology.
