Dr. Kayla Knilans with her mentor, Dr. Alex Duncan

Kayla Knilans, a member of Alex Duncan’s lab, successfully presented her thesis and received her Ph.D. August 7, 2014. The title of her dissertation was The role of lytic transglycosylases LtgA and LtgD in innate immune recognition and pathogenesis of Neisseria gonorrhoeae.” Our congratulations to Kayla!

Kayla’s parents, Bill and Donna Knilans, and her grandparents, Richard and Arlene Trewyn, came in from Whitewater, Wisconsin to attend Kayla’s presentation and help celebrate. Her boyfriend, Angus Wan also came from North Bethesda to be there for Kayla’s big day.

Kayla will take a position as a Postdoctoral Fellow with the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, MD, in the lab of Tom Wynn starting October 1. We wish Kayla all the best in all her future endeavors.
