Dr. Mauro Calabrese

Dr. Mauro Calabrese received a 2-year $150,000 Basil O’Connor Scholar Award from the March of Dimes foundation. The research will support an investigation into the mechanisms by which certain long noncoding RNAs regulate gene expression. Such RNAs play important roles in several childhood diseases, but the mechanisms by which they function remain poorly defined. The research of Dr. Calabrese and his team may uncover new disease etiologies and suggest new strategies to treat childhood syndromes associated with altered noncoding RNA function.

The March of Dimes Foundation is a nonprofit organization founded in 1938, dedicated to improving the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth and infant mortality.
