Michael F. Clarke, MD, Associate Director of the Stanford Institute for Stem Cell Biology & Regenerative Medicine gave the Luminary Scientist Distinguished Lecture on November 1, 2011.
The title of his talk was ““Molecular Regulation of Two Stem Cell States.”
The Luminary Scientist Distinguished Lecture Series is presented annually by the Pharmacology graduate students.
Dr. Clarke is the first researcher to identify cancer stem cell populations in solid tumors. He identified BMI-1 as a regulator of normal and cancer stem cell self renewal. He has published in and been a reviewer for numerous scientific journals including New England J. of Medicine, Nature, Nature Medicine, Nature Immunology, Cell, Cancer Cell, Oncogene, Human Gene Therapy, Blood, J.of Clinical Investigation and P.N.A.S. He is a member of Cell Stem Cell editorial board, a member of the American Society for Clinical Investigation and the American Association of Physicians as well as winner of the Racknam Award.
