Patrick Taus, a member of Angelique Whitehurst’s lab, successfully defended his PhD February 9, 2016. The title of his thesis is “FATE1: Contributor to Tumor Cell Fitness and Example of an Oncogene-activated Cancer Testis Antigen.”

Patrick flew in from Dallas, TX, where the Whitehorse lab relocated in 2013, to present his defense. His parents, Dave and Becky Taus, drove up from Jacksonville, FL to attend and celebrate with him.

Patrick is in the UNC MD/PhD program and will return to the UNC School of Medicine for two more years to complete his medical education.

Patrick was co-first author on a paper published in Nature Communications in May, 2015, titled “Comprehensive functional characterization of cancer–testis antigens defines obligate participation in multiple hallmarks of cancer.”

Our congratulations to Patrick!
