Congratulations to Kirsten Bryant and the UNC Running Rascals team for their astonishing success in fundraising for pancreatic cancer research through the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network’s annual Raleigh-Durham PurpleStride.

This was Bryant’s ninth year leading a team, after losing her dad to this devastating disease. This year she blasted through her goal to raise $16,117, their best year ever, for a 9-year total of $104,473. These funds go to advance scientific research, including early detection initiatives and new treatment approaches; provide free, one-to-one information about treatment options, diet, and resources to patients and caregivers; build volunteer relationships in local communities; and advocate for increased federal research funding.

Because they raised more than $10,000 this year they were considered an “Elite Team” and had a tent with their name on it. They also received an award for being the second highest fundraising team at this year’s event.

This year’s event took place at NC State’s Centennial campus and included 61 UNC Running Rascals team members. Many UNC labs participated including the Bryant, Der, Cox, Pylayeva-Gupta, Gupta, Yeh, Morris, and Somasundaram Labs. The team was additionally supported by the Dohlman, Weissman, and Merker labs, past members of the Major lab, and generous support from the Lineberger Cancer Center.
