Research Excellence for the 2010-2011 academic year

Yang Wang, a postdoctoral research associate in Zefeng Wang’s lab, in the Department of Pharmacology has won a Postdoctoral Award for Research Excellence for the 2010-2011 academic year.

The award was given in recognition of Yang’s impressive research accomplishments and his potential to become an outstanding researcher and scholar in his field, as well as acknowledging his contributions to the UNC community. The award provides $1000 to support to Yang for his research and development.

Yang won his award for research centered on debugging the splicing code, which can give us a better understanding of splicing regulation with diseases, help us to modulate disease-associated splicing and provide therapeutic potentials for treating splicing disease.

You can learn more about Yang’s research on engineering splicing factors with design specificities, in a paper published n Nature Methods (Nat Methods Nov;6(11):825-30. Epub 2009 Oct 4). Yang was first author on the paper. pubmed abstract online article
