At the UNC Center for Excellence in Community Health, we provide the latest individual and group evidence-based, behavioral therapy for our clients. As part of a major research university, our clinicians have access to world-class behavioral research.

At the initial visit to our clinics, all clients receive a detailed history and assessment of their current functioning. Clients then receive a recommendation for services, which may include individual or group psychotherapy.

Types of Individual or Group Behavioral Therapy offered include:

  • Supportive therapy with focus on recovery management interventions
  • Cognitive behavior therapy
  • Insight oriented therapy

Treatment conditions include:

  • Psychotic disorders requiring stabilization and rehabilitation
  • Co-occurring substance use disorders
  • Depression or anxiety
  • Coping with loss or suffering

Family Psychoeducation Support Group!

First Thursday of each month from 6:30-8pm | STEP Clinic Carr Mill (Lobby)

Being a family member of a loved one with mental illness can feel lonely, confusing and frustrating. We are offering a safe place to talk, share, and learn from one another. If interested, please send referrals to Claudia Driver through EPIC inbasket or email: Claudia_driver@med.unc.edu or contact the clinic for more information at 919-962-4919. This group will not be billed.

To qualify for the group:

  • Must be a family member of a STEP Clinic patient.
  • Must be able to attend in-person.
