Welcome to the Sponsored Programs Office, the Central Office for Research Administration in the School of Medicine.
The Sponsored Programs Office (SPO) is an administrative unit within the School of Medicine (SOM) under the purview of the Vice Dean for Research. SPO is fully committed to supporting the research mission of the School and protecting the overall interest and integrity of the University and School of Medicine. Our goal is to offer the highest level of customer service and research administration expertise.
The SPO staff function as a team responsible for the review, approval and submission of the SOM proposals to the NIH (except federal contracts), foundations and non-profit organizations, providing final university signature on behalf of the Vice Chancellor for Research.
Our team serves in a supporting role to the SOM departments and centers to provide information on University/state and agency policies, regulations and procedures. The SOM researchers typically initiate approximately 50% of all grant proposals submitted from the University.
The SPO also reviews/submits JIT materials, non-competing NIH progress reports (RPPRs), the NIH grant closeout final technical reports (FRPPRs) and corresponds with the sponsoring agency representatives to provide information as required. In addition, the SPO approves cost share supported by the SOM Dean’s office for all proposals across the university seeking extramural sponsored funding. The SPO Director has delegated signature authority to sign PI eligibility waiver requests on behalf of the SOM Dean when needed.
The SPO works in close collaboration with the Office of Sponsored Programs (OSP) with regard to all facets of pre-award administration.
University policies for sponsored research can be found on the website of the Office of Sponsored Programs
