CWHR moved to beautiful Southern Village, a mile south of campus, in 2009.Southern Village

Southern Village is a mixed-use Chapel Hill community of shops, restaurants, houses, apartments, townhouses, businesses, and offices. CWHR is conveniently located on Market Street, near the village square. There are many events held throughout the year, including a farmer’s market each Thursday from March to November and outdoor movies and concerts in the summer.

Pleasant Working Environment

CWHR occupies the “B” side of the building at 104 Market Street and contains a lobby area, offices, rest rooms, a kitchen, individual computer carrels, and outside porch, and patio seating areas.

The Center conference room seats up to 15 and contains a large pull-down screen, LCD projector/laptop, white boards and flip charts. Most internal CWHR meetings and events are held in the conference room. It is also available for use by other colleagues in women’s health research for educational and professional meetings. The kitchen is fully-equipped with a refrigerator, stove, microwave, dishwasher, and Keurig coffee maker. Staff may use the kitchen area for food storage and cooking. Each person is responsible for clean-up after using the kitchen and common areas.

CWHR provides several computer-equipped, internet accessible office carrels for use by research collaborators, faculty, interns, graduate research assistants, work study students, and others during regular office hours. Prior arrangement is helpful but not required. In addition, the building is Wi-Fi enabled through the School of Medicine.

Conference Room

Panorama of the CWHR Conference Room

Our conference table comfortably fits 12, though additional seating and configurations are available for presentations. The room contains a large white board, and several writing pads for dynamic collaboration. There is also a large screen projector connected to a network computer.

You’re also welcome to bring individual laptops to connect to the large screen. Meetings, presentations, focus groups and more have been held in the conference room in the past. If you would like your meeting catered please let us know when scheduling the room.

Our computer is Onyen log-in enabled for those on our network. If you would like to be added please contact Michael Kerr at least 48 hours before your meeting. There is also a general log-in for those that would like to use the basic internet and Microsoft Office functions for their meeting.

Work Space

CWHR Work Space is provided for teams, students and those that just need a quiet place to work.

General Research/Student Space

The Center possesses several cubicles with network connected computers, or docking stations for laptops. This work space is open to research teams, students, and investigators. A more private room may also be available upon request.

PI/Research Manager Space

CWHR maintains a closed door, two-person office for principal investigators and their research managers to use as needed. There are two desk spaces, one with an Onyen log-on computer. The other desk is open for lap-top users. Access to network printers is available. The space also holds a comfortable chair for reading, and can be used for smaller two to three person meetings.

Individual Offices

The CWHR PI/Research Manager Room can be reserved for one or two people, and also serves as a lactation support room.

The availability of dedicated individual offices for PIs or their research staff are based on several factors:

  1. The number of grants we are currently servicing and any promised future holds on space
  2. The total FTE of a research team member on Center administered grants, or a PI’s overall research commitment to the Center.
