AHIPS
What is AHIPS?
The Allied Health Interprofessional Students (AHIPS) Committee embodies a vision for holistic and collaborative interprofessional education and practice (IPEP). This committee’s work connects IPEP initiatives between the Department of Health Science (DHS) and the Office of Interprofessional Education and Practice (OIPEP). It supports the campus-wide initiative for the intentional integration of interprofessional learning and collaboration through creative and meaningful ways. AHIPS supports and follows the Interprofessional Education Collaborative (IPEC) core competencies.
What do AHIPS committee members do?
The AHIPS committee has the privilege of representing 440+ DHS students. In addition to serving as student IPEP representatives, committee members advise Dr. Judy Schmidt, the DHS IPE director, Raheleh Tschoepe, the AHIPS Faculty Liaison, and division faculty representatives on IPE integration into curricula within DHS and across campus. Finally, the AHIPS committee designs and carries out IPEP activities and events for students in the department.
What events has AHIPS hosted previously?
AHIPS members plan and host four interprofessional education events for the DHS per year. In the past, these have included a hurricane simulation, grand rounds, Interprofessional Jeopardy: Who Ya Gonna Call?, A Time for Telehealth, and DHS IPE Research Fair. Additionally, AHIPS members can plan social events for health sciences students to meet and network with other students in the department.
