The Office of Student Services supports the members of the student body throughout their Health Careers. All student related issues funnel through this office, and most activities that involve students, including Orientation, Semester Welcome-Back events, and Graduation are organized here. The Office of Student Services manages student data, supports clinical education, assists with course evaluations, and offers financial aid counseling.

Eileen Burker, PhD, CRC 

Associate Chair for Student Services 

As the Associate Chair for Student Services in the Department of Health Sciences, my background in Clinical Psychology and Rehabilitation Counseling is helpful as I mentor students and provide resources for our students to help them maximize their time at UNC and reach their personal and professional goals. Our office promotes student wellness, the unique disciplines of our department, helps to recruit students, collects and maintains student-related data, and assists students with financial, academic and social concerns.

Perry is the financial aid manager for the Department of Health Sciences. He handles questions from current and prospective students about applying for and receiving financial aid. Additionally, he is the student services coordinator for the Master of Science in Clinical Rehabilitation and Mental Health Counseling program. He is responsible for admissions, registration, enrollment, and graduation tracking for the academic program. Perry received his bachelor’s degree from UNC Greensboro, and his Master’s degree from East Carolina University and is currently pursuing his JD degree from Syracuse University.


Kimberly Capri, EdM

Kimberly Capri is the Student Services Manager in the Office of Student Services, Department of Health Sciences. She helps to oversee the employees and the office environment within Student Services. In addition to her supervisory duties, she helps conduct student services for the Neurodiagnostic and Sleep Sciences and other new programs when needed including admissions, registration, enrollment verification, and graduation. She has a background in Higher Education Administration from working at Boston University, East Carolina University and now UNC Chapel Hill. She has a Master’s degree in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies from Boston University and has a passion for working with students and helping them succeed during their time in higher education.


Barbara Hutchison 

Clinical Education Administrator

Barb Hutchison is the Clinical Education Administrator and student services coordinator responsible for coordinating all compliance regulations for the students in all divisions of Health Sciences Audiology, Clinical laboratory, Clinical rehab and Mental health, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Radiology Sciences and Laboratories, Speech and hearing She is also responsible for all event planning for the Clinical coordinator preceptors’ events in Chapel Hill and Wilmington. Her background has been in the pharmaceutical and medical fieldShe comes to UNC from Mayo Clinic. She is a Licensed massage therapist, specializing in therapeutic massage and alternative therapies. She enjoys helping students achieve their goals and watching them succeed. 


Phillip Hopkins  

Clinical Contracts Specialist

Phillip coordinates the contracts and affiliation agreements for Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy students participating in clinical rotations during their time at UNC-CH. He served for 13 years as a Special Operator in the United States Air Force. He is fluent in Pashto and Dari and holds a bachelor’s degree in legal studies from Liberty University. 


Stephen (Garrett) Nesmith  

Clinical Contracts Specialist

Garrett works alongside Phillip as a clinical contract specialist with a focus in Audiology, Speech Language Pathology, Radiological Science, Clinical Laboratory Science, and Clinical Rehabilitation & Mental Health Counseling. He previously held positions as a K-12 teacher and a licensed service technician and has worked in higher education for the past 3 years. He holds a bachelor’s degree in social science education from Auburn University.


Kayla Rankin  

Student Services Specialist

Kayla is the Student Services Specialist for the Department of Health Sciences. She works with students in the Master of Speech-Language Pathology program, the Audiology Doctoral program, and the Radiography Certificate program. She assists students with admissions, enrollment, registration, and graduation processes during their time at UNC. She also creates and manages the course evaluations for the department. She has been working in higher education for 3+ years. Kayla received her BFA in New Media and Design from UNC Greensboro and enjoys doing artwork during her free time.

Tamara Mesko  

Student Services Support Specialist 

Tamara Mesko is the Administrative Assistant for several programs in the office of Student Services in Health Sciences. She works with students in Radiological Science for Masters and Bachelors, Occupational Therapy & Science, and Speech & Hearing Sciences to guide them through the admissions, registration, and graduation processes during their time at UNC. She has worked in higher education for 20 years, between UNC Greensboro and Chapel Hill. Tamara enjoys working behind the scenes to help all students achieve their goals and succeed in the Health Sciences field.   


Carolyn Oakes  

Student Services Support Specialist

Carolyn Oakes, a Student Support Specialist in the Department of Health Sciences with over 16 years of experience in admissions at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, assists prospective students with inquiries regarding admissions and applications processes for the Doctor of Physical Therapy, Master of Clinical Laboratory Sciences, Bachelor of Clinical Laboratory Sciences, and Human Movement Science. Carolyn also works with current students enrolled in these programs and manages admissions, enrollment, registrations, and graduation processes. She finds joy in helping students achieve their goals and believes that anything is possible if you believe in yourself.

Hannah Siburt, AuD, PhD 

AHEC Director 

As the AHEC Director for the Department of Health Sciences, I am able to use my professional background in Audiology and experience leading rural healthcare initiatives to support the AHEC mission.  Our office is responsible for collaborating with AHEC leadership across the state along with faculty and students in our department to support educational activities across North Carolina.
