Using technology to improve older adults’ health is of keen interest to Dr. Batsis and his team. As older adults’ use of technology grows, utilizing telemedicine and remote monitoring systems represent a new access point to improving geriatric care. Dr. Batsis’ interdisciplinary team has conducted multiple trials evaluating weight loss interventions using remote monitoring and the use of telemedicine in delivering care. If successful, routine integration of technology into geriatric care can partially substitute in-person oversight, lower costs, and reduce transportation and geographic care barriers to accessing services.
