	Amira Ramadan, M.D. Graduated 2021
I was born in Prague but raised in beautiful, warm Egypt. I graduated and completed a Pediatric residency at the School Of Medicine at Ain Shams University in Egypt. During residency, I received a Master’s Degree in exploring the adrenal reserve in children with tuberculosis which prompted my passion for Pediatric Endocrinology. My career then brought me to the United States where I pursued an interest in research. I chose UNC for my Pediatric Endocrinology Fellowship because I was excited for the many clinical and research opportunities it has to offer. During my fellowship, I have developed interest in type 1 diabetes in youth. I am part of a collaborative international comparison project looking at multiple clinics across the country and worldwide to explore how differences in the content and structure of diabetes education may explain variability in clinical outcomes in youth with type 1 diabetes. I am also leading a quality improvement project that aims to increase effective utilization of the problem list documentation in the electronic health record for pediatric patients with diabetes. This will be a useful tool to generate reports for research purposes as well as identify specific populations. I have had the opportunity to learn from an outstanding group of clinicians who continually support and encourage me to pursue my career as an academically focused clinician.
	Mark Henin, M.D. Graduated 2018 Current Position: Pediatric Endocrinologist WakeMed Physician Practices
Scholarly Project: Anti-Human CD4 and CD8 Antibody Co-Therapy Induce T-Cell Egress from Inflammatory Tissues via the FOXO1 Pathway. Dr. Henin presented his work during an oral podium presentation at the 10th International Joint Meeting of the Pediatric Endocrine Society in 2017. In addition, he won the Jud Van Wyk Award for Outstanding Scholarship in Basic Science Research at the annual UNC Thomas F. Boat Day of Scholarship. “Since starting at UNC for my Pediatric Endocrinology fellowship, I have relished the opportunity to work with fantastic attendings who come from a variety of research backgrounds and who all place education as a top priority. I quickly discovered that there is no shortage of pathology at UNC. In my short time here I have been personally involved in the diagnosis and management of patients with new onset diabetes, panhypopituatirism, adrenoleukodystrophy, Turner Syndrome, 46 XY ovotesticular DSD, Graves’ disease, congenital hypothyroidism, PCOS, MEN (1a and 2a) and thyroid carcinoma (papillary and follicular) both on the inpatient wards and in the clinic. As a top flight academic institution located in the heart of the Research Triangle, UNC also provides a plethora of clinical, translational or laboratory research opportunities for fellows.”
	Bradly Thrasher, D.O. Graduated 2017 Current Position: Assistant Professor of Pediatrics University of Tennessee College of Medicine Chattanooga Erlanger Children’s Hospital Chattanooga, Tennessee
Scholarly Project: Immune Response to Vaccination in Turner Syndrome. Over the course of 24 months, Dr. Thrasher recruited patients and completed data analysis evaluating the immune response to HPV vaccine in TS patients. He received the 2015 Walter Tunnessen Award for Best Clinical Science Research after presenting his work at the University of North Carolina Evening of Scholarship Meeting. His work was also selected as a top ranking abstract at the 2016 Pediatric Endocrine Society Annual Meeting for which he was awarded a Presidential Poster Session. “…I was excited about learning how to design and conduct translational research that may impact patient care. I have valued my time at UNC and know that my first-rate training and mentorship have me ever-ready for my first faculty position as an assistant professor of pediatrics at The University of Tennessee College of Medicine Chattanooga – Erlanger Children’s Hospital.”
