What is it like to work with IMPACTT-NC
“Our partnership with IMPACTT-NC has been truly transformative for our students and families. Access to psychiatric care at school has removed one of the greatest barriers our students face—timely access to care. By bringing these services directly into our schools, students are receiving the support they need without missing valuable instructional time, and families no longer have to worry about transportation or access to a provider for appointments. This partnership has strengthened our ability to care for the whole child and has made a lasting difference in the well-being of our school community.” — Kristen W. Hall, Chief Officer for District Effectiveness/Student Support Services and Digital Learning, Duplin County Schools
What will my district pay?
IMPACTT-NC does not charge a fee to school districts.
How are services paid for?

Insurances are billed and copays/deductibles apply. IMPACTT-NC accepts most Medicaid plans and is in network with most major insurance types. Caregivers are encouraged to check insurance benefits before a visit as coverage may vary. If families are concerned about affording the program, please contact IMPACTT-NC for more information about options available for those without insurance or other financial barriers. IMPACTT-NC has options that may be able to assist, including UNC Health’s Financial Assistance Program that may help offset costs for those who are eligible.
How do children and youth receive services?
In general, caregivers, community service providers, or the student can call IMPACTT-NC to initiate services. Medical providers using EPIC@UNC can follow the instructions in the blue box to the right to refer. School faculty or staff at IMPACTT-NC enrolled schools can complete the IMPACTT-NC referral form provided to your school. Call IMPACTT-NC at 984-974-1619 if you have more questions. A staff member will contact the caregiver for a 10-15 minute screening call to determine if IMPACTT-NC is a good fit for the student child/adolescent or recommend a referral to another program. Interpreter services are available.
Do students receive care over the summer?
Our care team works over the summer months and is happy to continue care of students. In some cases, the care will continue from their home . We strive to identify a site through school or community partners that can be available for those who are not able to complete their visits from home over the summer.
Do you offer any support to school district staff and faculty?
Yes! Over the summer months, IMPACTT-NC opens up our therapy services to the staff and faculty of the districts we serve. Interested staff and faculty can be assured of complete privacy if they seek support for therapy services.
Do you only offer direct services for students?
Thanks to a gift from the Leon Levine Foundation, IMPACTT-NC will be offering select, no cost Tier 1 and Tier 2 services in mid-2026. If you are interested in learning more, please contact Charissa Gray at charissa_gray@med.unc.edu.
