There are several Surgery rotations offered to third and fourth-year medical students at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, as well as to visiting fourth-year medical students. All rotations are arranged and approved through the School of Medicine’s Office of Student Affairs.
To help students during their rotations, the department has created educational videos to help set up our UNC Medical students for success.
Students interested in applying to the University of North Carolina School of Medicine are directed to the UNC MD Program site.
Current UNC Students
Third-year medical students at the University of North Carolina may visit Sakai to obtain detailed information about the eight-week clerkship.
Non-UNC Medical Students
Interested in a visiting rotation at UNC during your fourth year of medical school? Our elective periods are four weeks in duration, although occasionally we accept visiting students for two electives (up to eight weeks). Applications are due at least two months prior to the starting date of the elective you wish to take. Details, including applications and a listing of Surgery’s Fourth Year courses, are available at the School of Medicine’s site for Visiting Students.
Those medical students interested in learning more about the surgical profession are invited to visit The George Sheldon Society Surgery Interest Group.
