Living Life Well

Living Life Well is a 6-week class for individuals who are interested in learning mindfulness strategies to promote overall health and well-being.

What is mindfulness?

Stress and pain are unavoidable facts of life. Mindfulness is an approach to cultivate inner resources to deal with stress, pain and illness. Mindfulness is for people who want to be more fully aware, improve their overall quality of life, be happier and live life to the fullest. Mindfulness is about being fully aware of whatever is happening in the present moment, without filters or the lens of judgment. Instead of letting your life pass you by, mindfulness means living in the moment and awakening to experience.

There is strong evidence that mindfulness practice can help people with:

  • Stress reduction
  • Chronic pain
  • Heart disease & high blood pressure
  • Headaches
  • Sleep problems
  • Anxiety & depression

Cost

For the past few years, UNC Family Medicine has been able to offer our Living Life Well Mindfulness class free of charge to our patients and community. Unfortunately, our generous funding source has recently expired, and we now have to charge a one-time fee of $265 for the class. The class will remain free for those receiving Charity Care.

If someone withdraws from the class prior to the start of class, their full fee will be refunded. If someone withdraws from the class after the first session, they will receive a refund of $215 (minus $50). There are no refunds for discontinuing the class after the second session.

Participant Comments

Some comments from previous participants:

  • “Helped me to understand that I am a stronger person that I thought. Less stress and I think differently now than I did 6 weeks ago.”
  • “I came away with a better outlook for life. Accepting life even when unpleasant situations happen. I was a little skeptical about attending the classes, but my skepticism was put to rest.”
  • “This class really was of benefit to me. One year ago I had a heart attack. I went through cardiac rehab and am doing well now. However, anytime I had a little twinge in my chest or some heartburn, I panicked and it caused my blood pressure to spike. I was on the verge of taking anti- anxiety medication. This course was life changing for me because I can now control my anxiety without medication. Thank you!”
