Founded in 1990 and named after the renowned former president of the UNC system and North Carolina Senator, the Frank Porter Graham Honor Society recognizes outstanding service provided to the University and community by graduate and professional students enrolled at the UNC – Chapel Hill. Further, it recognizes faculty, staff, and friends of the UNC – Chapel Hill who have made significant contributions to the development of graduate and professional student education at the University. Nominees are expected to be involved in activities above and beyond that which is required for their degree or position.

Barry Lentz, is a Professor of Biochemistry & Biophysics and Director of the Program in Molecular and Cellular Biophysics at UNC. Research in his lab seeks to reveal biomembrane structural features leading to two aspects of membrane function: the role of platelet membranes in blood coagulation and the involvement of bilayer microstructures in cell membrane fusion.
