Congratulations to Dr. Aziz Sancar, Distinguished Professor of Biochemistry & Biophysics, who received the 2016 Lifetime Achievement Award from the Triangle Business Journal and is named as one of their Healthcare Heroes for the year.
The Triangle Business Journal (TBJ) is a local publication that highlights news and events in the triangle area of North Carolina with a particular focus on business and consumer interests. Annually, they open nominations for their “Healthcare Heroes” awards that are given to local scientists, doctors, nurses, volunteers and administrators for their contributions to well being of the community. This year, Dr. Sancar received the top honor in Lifetime Achievement for his contributions to the prevention and treatment of cancer. TBJ will host the award reception on March 17 at the Rickhouse in Durham – registration to attend is open to the public: 2016 Health Care Heroes Awards Reception.
Sancar is also the recent recipient of a 2016 ASBMB Vallee award for biomedical sciences and a recipient of the 2015 Nobel Prize in Chemistry.
