The National Science Foundation predoctoral fellowships are designed to help ensure the vitality of the human resource base of science and engineering in the United States and reinforces its diversity. The program recognizes and supports outstanding graduate students in NSF-supported science, technology, engineering, and mathematics disciplines who are pursuing research-based master’s and doctoral degrees at accredited US institutions.

Cassandra Hayne is currently a student training in the lab of Dr. Saskia Neher, Assistant Professor of Biochemistry and Biophysics. Her research project is titled “Regulation of LPL Activity Through Changes in Oligomeric State.”

Rebecca Pollet is currently a student training in the lab of Dr. Matthew Redinbo, Professor of Chemistry. Her research project is titled “Characterization of the potential ATPase TraE, essential for conjugative DNA transfer in Staphylococcus aureus plasmid pSK41.”

Both of the proposals begin April 1, 2013 and are funded through March 31, 2016.
