Kidney Transplant
Transplant patients at UNC benefit from a multi-disciplinary team of surgeons, specialists, researchers, nurses, coordinators, and counselors working together to help achieve the best possible outcomes. This team approach to care means every patient who comes through our doors is treated with a unique plan that takes into account the differences that distinguish every person’s situation. More information is available at the Center for Transplant Care web site.
Kidney Transplant Outreach Clinic
The UNC Kidney Center provides an outreach clinic on Fridays to areas across North Carolina to provide kidney transplant education classes and pre-transplant evaluation appointments for patients.
A transplant nephrologist and a nurse practitioner travel to one of the following sites for these outreach clinics: Asheville, and Raleigh/Rex.
Two decades ago, an incredible connection began with UNC Health’s first living non-directed kidney donation from a UNC Health nurse to a woman in need of a kidney transplant. 63-year-old Chapel Hill resident Anne Kelly and 69-year-old Clayton resident Debra Norris share their unique story of selflessness and gratitude and an instant unbreakable bond through one kidney.
