Patients suffering from autonomic failure can notice lightheadedness from standing, passing out episodes or blood pressure drops from sitting to standing. Autonomic testing can be helpful in the diagnosis and management of patients experiencing these symptoms.

We do not provide management of POTS/EDS/Chronic fatigue or syncope not related to a neurological disorder.

We do offer management of autonomic failure in other neurological disorders such as neuropathy or brain injury.

The UNC Center for Autonomic Failure offers the following:

Patients will undergo autonomic testing including heart rate response to deep breathing, Valsalva maneuver, and tilt table procedure. No results, recommendations or diagnoses are given to the patient after testing, this is the responsibility of the physician.

There is the option to request catecholamine testing and EEG with autonomic testing in specific indications.

For ages 45 and older autonomic testing and a consultation visit to discuss the results of testing and recommendations for management of orthostatic hypotension.

Only testing and recommendations based on the testing will be discussed. No diagnosis will be given on the overall clinical picture. We will not manage ongoing care. There is an option to request catecholamine testing with autonomic testing.
