Welcome!

Thank you for your interest in Child Neurology and our program at UNC!

UNC Children’s is nationally recognized for excellence in pediatric care, and our Child Neurology program is proud to contribute to that legacy. With roots tracing back to the early days of the field, our program is committed to training well-rounded child neurologists equipped to thrive in a rapidly evolving healthcare landscape.

Our curriculum offers a strong foundation in both general and child neurology, along with broad exposure to a wide range of subspecialties. Graduates of our program have gone on to succeed in various settings—from community-based practices to leading-edge academic institutions.

At UNC, we foster a supportive and collaborative learning environment. As residents progress, we emphasize a thoughtful balance between supervision and independence to promote both professional and personal growth. Our trainees benefit from the School of Medicine’s culture of teamwork, service, and a shared commitment to excellence in patient care, education, and research.

We invite you to visit and explore our program and suggest that you also take time to tour Chapel Hill, a college town that routinely ranks as one of the best places to live in the US and which has a wealth of diverse social, cultural and professional opportunities.

The department welcomes your interest in Child Neurology at UNC – the field needs you!

Sincerely,

Child Residency Leadership

Program Mission

The goal of the UNC Child Neurology Residency Program is to train outstanding clinical neurologists and to foster our residents’ interest in teaching and academic neurology. This is accomplished through extensive exposure to clinical neurology and thoughtful didactics in a collegial and nurturing environment. Through the course of our training program, residents progressively obtain greater independence and autonomy as they gain more experience in managing patients.
