Primary Progressive Aphasia (PPA) refers to a clinical syndrome that primarily affects language function. While aphasia in adults is most commonly caused by acute strokes, PPA refers to degenerative brain disorders that gradually affect different language functions, which makes them difficult to diagnose. PPA is most commonly seen in patients with Frontotemporal Degeneration (FTD), but about 25% of cases are associated with Alzheimer’s disease.

This seminar is provided by:

  • Alzheimer’s North Carolina (AlzNC)
  • The Association for Frontotemporal Degeneration (AFTD)
  • Triangle Aphasia Project, Unlimited
  • University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, Memory Disorders Clinic
