fMRI and optical fiber photometry (IMAGE)
Default mode network examined by fMRI and optical fiber photometry.

Researchers in the Shih lab published novel findings on causal control of the anterior insular cortex on the default mode network of the brain using selective neural stimulation (Nature Communications, featured as an Editor’s highlight article), and multi-channel optical recording of neural activity changes during fMRI (Science Advances, see also Press release, Video News Coverage, and the interview of first author and neurology staff scientist, Dr. Harry Chao, by the Physics World. Drs. Sungho Lee, Margaret Broadwater, and Ian Shih also contributed a landmark article to image functional connectivity in the rodent brain (Nature Neuroscience, cover of the issue).
