UNC’s Abdominal Imaging Fellowship 

November 1st, 2025 – Application period opens and open house webinars begin. Interviews will begin January 12, 2026. Please check back soon for exact dates, as they will align with the application process of the national abdominal imaging fellowships.

ELIGIBILITY: For consideration, the fellowship candidate must be:

a) Enrolled in or have completed a residency in Diagnostic Radiology

b) Board-eligible or Board-certified by the American Board of Radiology.

c) Legally able to work in the United States

d) Pass the core ABR Examination

e) Able to qualify for a current NC Medical License, individual DEA License and a NPI # (National Provider Identifier)

Please submit the following documents via email to Dr. Sam Ostrum. As needed, mail materials to Dr. Ostrum at the address at the bottom:

  • CV
  • Personal statement or cover letter
  • Three letters of recommendation emailed

Daily Responsibilities: Please review the curriculum section.  Fellows will be responsible for attending service coverage on an infrequent basis (approximately 3 days per month).  Possible services covered will include GIGU, US, or a half day of CT.

Call: On-call responsibilities involve attending one week of CT and US calls, approximately 8-9 weeks assigned throughout the year.

Vacation: Fellows earn 4 weeks (20 days) of vacation for the year, with an additional week of vacation over the Christmas/New Year’s holidays.

Moonlighting: We have several internal moonlighting opportunities available, including contrast coverage and preliminary reporting.
