Pain Fellowship

The Department of Anesthesiology and the University of North Carolina Hospitals currently are approved for three one-year ACGME-accredited Pain Medicine fellowship positions. We consider all candidates with primary training in Anesthesiology, Neurology, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, or Psychiatry.

Our group emphasizes a compassionate, comprehensive, and multidisciplinary approach to the management of patients with acute or chronic pain. We provide the full range of treatments ranging from analgesic management, physical therapy, psychological assessment and therapy, diagnostic and therapeutic pain procedures, and advanced interventional implant techniques. By referral, we have ready access within the UNC system to all other medical specialties, as well as practitioners in acupuncture and other complementary therapies.

In addition to an excellent didactic program, we offer clinical experiences at the UNC Pain Management Center (our primary outpatient facility), our interventional clinic located at the UNC Spine Center, and at UNC Hospitals. All ACGME-required sub-specialty experiences are offered within the UNC system.

We also offer outstanding research support through the Department of Anesthesiology's Research Division and the University's Center for Neurosensory Disorders.
