Dr. Dokholyan is receiving these prestigous awards or his pioneering work on the mechanisms of protein aggregation, a poorly understood phenomenon that underlies a number of tragic diseases, including Alzheimer disease and Familial Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis.

Dr. Dokholyan received his B.S. and M.S. degrees in Physics from the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology, and a Ph.D. in Physics from Boston University. He completed postdoctoral training with Eugene Shaknovich before joining our faculty in 2002. Nikolay is an expert in the use of computational methods to study dynamic protein folding as well as protein evolution, and is combining computational and experimental methods in order to better understand protein aggregation – a phenomenon that has proved difficult to study with traditional experimental approaches alone – as well as other topics Examples of Nikolay’s work can be found in the Journal of Molecular Biology (vol 334, pages 515-525, 2003) and the Proceedings of the National Academy USA (vol 99, pages 14132-14136, 2002).
