Hi everyone,

Next week is Graduate Education Week, which features several events in celebration of our students (see below). Please make sure to congratulate our graduate students for their tenacity in difficult times, their many accomplishments, and their immense contributions to the success of our department and the university. But Graduate Education Week is also a celebration of those who work tirelessly to ensure the success of our students, which in our department includes our Student  Services Manager, Holly Shepherd, our Associate Dean of Graduate Education, Jean Cook, and all the staff in the office – please take a moment to thank them too. And of course, pat yourself on the shoulder too – great mentors make great graduate students, and we have the best students on campus 😊

Best regards,

The North Carolina Council of Graduate School has several exciting events planned for Graduate Education Week, including

  • On Monday, May 17 at 9:45 a.m., please join us for a panel discussion in which graduate students will share their research the North Carolina legislators.
  • On Tuesday, May 18 we will host the inaugural Tar Heel 3 Minute Thesis competition, which is generously supported by the Burroughs Wellcome Fund. This 3 Minute Thesis competition will be unique in that it will showcase students from universities across the state of North Carolina.
  • Throughout the week, graduate students will meet with legislators and their teams to share their research and highlight the valuable contributions that they make in every corner of our state.

Thank you to everyone who has worked so hard to make Graduate Education Week possible, especially to our outstanding graduate students!

Best regards,

Suzanne Barbour PhD, Dean
