The UNC Department of Neurology proudly congratulates Dr. Deanna Saylor on receiving the Osuntokun Award at the 5th Annual African Stroke Organization (ASO) Conference, held November 3–5, 2025, at the Sarova Panafric Hotel in Nairobi, Kenya. Dr. Deanna Saylor serves as an Associate Professor of Neurology and is a member of the Institute for Global Health and Infectious Diseases.
Named in honor of Professor Benjamin Oluwakayode Osuntokun, a pioneering African neuroepidemiologist renowned for his groundbreaking stroke research, the Osuntokun Award is a prestigious recognition presented annually by ASO to celebrate a scientist’s lifetime contributions to stroke research on the African continent.
Dr. Saylor delivered the Osuntokun Award Lecture on November 4, 2025, titled “Improving Stroke Care in Zambia: From Registries to Interventions.” Her lecture highlighted innovative approaches to stroke care and the importance of data-driven interventions in resource-limited settings.
