The Department of Neurology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is pleased to announce the promotion of Dr. Monica M. Diaz, MD, MS, to Associate Professor of Neurology.
Dr. Diaz has been a valued member of the UNC faculty since 2020, serving as a tenure-track Assistant Professor. Over the past several years, she has established an internationally recognized research program focused on neuroinfectious diseases, neuroimmunology, and the neurological complications of HIV, with a strong focus on neurological care in underserved populations.
A highly accomplished physician-scientist, Dr. Diaz has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications and book chapters, secured multiple NIH and foundation grants as principal investigator and co-investigator, and earned national recognition for her work, including awards from the American Academy of Neurology and the American Brain Foundation.
In addition to her research excellence, Dr. Diaz is a dedicated educator and mentor, contributing extensively to medical student, resident, and fellow training, and leading innovative global health education initiatives.
