The annual Paul Molina Lecture continues to honor the remarkable legacy of Dr. Paul Molina, a distinguished leader in radiology whose impact resonates deeply across academic medicine and clinical care.
Honoring Dr. Paul Molina’s Legacy
Dr. Molina served as Professor and Executive Vice Chairman of the Department of Radiology at the University of North Carolina School of Medicine in Chapel Hill. A nationally recognized expert in thoracic radiology, his work focused on lung cancer, trauma imaging, and 3-D imaging techniques—areas in which he helped shape both clinical practice and academic research.
Over the course of his career, Dr. Molina:
- Authored or co-authored 65+ peer-reviewed publications and 11 book chapters
- Delivered more than 200 invited lectures at medical centers and scientific symposia worldwide
- Contributed to leading professional societies, including:
- American College of Radiology
- Radiological Society of North America
- Society of Thoracic Radiology
- American Roentgen Ray Society
He was also named a Fellow of the American College of Radiology and frequently recognized among America’s Top Radiologists.
Equally impactful was his dedication to education. Dr. Molina received multiple Dean’s Excellence in Teaching awards, earned repeated Teacher-of-the-Year honors, and was inducted into the UNC Academy of Educators. His commitment to mentorship and teaching excellence was further exemplified by his selection as a two-time national finalist for the prestigious ACGME Parker J. Palmer “Courage to Teach” Award.
