Karin Leiderman awarded MPI NIH R01 Grant
A new MPI NIH R01 was awarded to Karin Leiderman, PhD and Alisa Wolberg, PhD of University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Medicine, entitled: “Interdisciplinary Approach to Elucidate Modifiers of Bleeding Phenotype in Factor XI Deficiency.” Read more at Blood Research Center news.

Congratulations to Abigail Ballard-Kordeliski (Bergmeier lab): paper published in the journal Blood
In this study, Bergmeier lab developed a 4D (3D over time) in vivo imaging model of mouse hemostatic plug formation. With this model, they demonstrated that the accumulation of fibrin, an essential component of hemostatic plug stability, is determined by a balance of fibrin formation and degradation. The lab also examined the contribution of procoagulant platelets to the accumulation of fibrin and demonstrated that platelets are the functionally dominant procoagulant surface for fibrin accumulation in hemostasis. Abigail Ballard-Kordeliski is the first author.

Our members speak at the RNA Center retreat on May 21st
UNC has become a leading center for RNA research, with laboratories studying the form, function, and clinical applications of RNA at virtually all biological scales. Congrats Caitlin Johnson who earned her certificate in Biophysics
Caitlin Johnson earned her certificate in Biophysics and her PhD in Biological Chemistry. Her advisor was Dorothy Erie. She is doing a postdoctoral fellow at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) in Golden, CO. Congratulations to Dr. Johnson!
