Our 2025 Research Retreat was held on October 16, 2025 in MBRB (G-202 and 2nd floor lobby) which included a full day of talks, posters, networking, and socializing! It was an inspiring day – with a 2025 retreat motto of “Shared Science, Shared Purpose.”

Our keynote speaker was Dr. Dougald (Mac) Monroe from the UNC Blood Research Center and our alum, who will give a fascinating talk on the biochemistry of the coagulation system and taught us a little about the rich history of coagulation/hemophilia research at UNC.

After the science, we held a reception in the evening, which included appetizers and beverages in the MBRB Lobby for networking with friends and colleagues.

The research retreat was an amazing display of the wide range of outstanding and multidisciplinary research in our department. BIG thanks to the retreat committee for organizing the schedule of events and to the staff for all the work to make it comfortable and successful. It is no small feat to provide an event like this, and it requires considerable time and effort, so thank them when you see them! Bobby Lee, Dale Ramsden, Emily Sipko, Jake Hughes, Rhonda Strickland, Carolyn Clabo, and Latasha Mingo. We also acknowledge the generosity of the James C. Andrews Memorial Fund for making this retreat free to all BCBP labs. Dr. Andrews was Chair from 1937 to 1957.
