Beginning on Monday, September 18, 2-Step Verification will be required to utilize the UNC School of Medicine Campus VPN to access resources from off-campus locations. The Cisco VPN Client is typically used when off campus to access shared network resources such as the J: drive, and on-campus printers, as well as connecting to your office desktop using the Remote Desktop Connection. Read more for information on registering for 2-Step Verification (Duo).
Think of 2-Step Verification as another layer of protection for your most vital accounts. For applications that require 2-Step Verification, you will be required to log in with both your password and an additional security measure, such as a:
- code delivered via text, voice call or mobile app
- push (or pop-up) notification on your smartphone
- call to your landline phone
Enrolling in 2-Step Verification takes just 10 minutes and helps keep you and UNC secure. To learn more, visit its.unc.edu/2-step.
Please note that the September 18 addition of 2-Step Verification to VPN access applies only to the UNC School of Medicine Campus VPN group (UNCCampus). This will not impact other VPN groups, such as UNC Health Care (UNCHealthcare).
