Rinku Majumder, PhD

A University Research Council award is paid from endowment income from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Foundation and solicited by the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research. The awards are eligible for and given to early career tenure-track and fixed-term faculty member (lecturers, research assistant professors, clinical assistant professors). Junior faculty may use funds from the award to support the purchase of supplies and equipment, the salary of assistants, and travel; awards typically range from $2,500 to $7,500 for one year. Dr. Majumder was awarded $5,000 for her project titled “Regulation of Factor IXa/VIIIa by Protein S independent of APC.”

Dr. Majumder is currently a Research Associate Professor of Biochemistry and Biophysics. Dr. Majumder began her career at UNC under the direction of Dr. Barry Lentz in 1998 and has in recent years begun establishing herself as an independent investigator working on blood coagulation. Her research efforts confirm the existence of functionally important PS binding sites on both Xa and Va and argues a more influential role of lipids in coagulation than previously suspected.
